Milton is growing quickly as more and more people discover this hidden gem in the West GTA. From 2001 to 2016, the population jumped from 30,000 to 110,000. Close to Mississauga, Oakville and Toronto, Milton is the perfect place for commuters looking for small-town charm. What are the best neighbourhoods in Milton? Well, there are so many, that it was difficult to narrow down, however today we’ll share our favourites with you.

Best Milton Neighbourhood for Toronto Commuters – Dempsey

With a GO Train station and easy access to the 400-series highways, commuting from Milton to Toronto is a great option. If you’re looking to drive, you’re right near the highway, or you can hop on the GO train and leave the car at home! The closest community to Mississauga and Toronto, Dempsey gives you the shortest commute (depending on traffic, you can be in Toronto in less than an hour).

Dempsey was one of the first Milton areas to be developed, with many homes dating back to the early 2000s. The community offers a mix of housing options, from apartment-style condos and townhouses to semi-detached and 4-bedroom detached family homes.

Amenities and Activities

Everything you need is close at hand when you live in Dempsey. If you’re looking for a day of shopping and dining out, both Maple Avenue and Main St. offer an abundance of options. You’ll also find many local parks and playgrounds within walking distance for a fun day with the kids.  

Milton Leisure Centre – The Milton Leisure Centre is a full-service recreational facility with pools, a hot tub, sauna, gymnasium, fitness centre and weight room. You can rent the activity room and one of the pools for private parties, take a fitness class, or work out with a personal trainer.

First Ontario Arts Centre – The First Ontario Arts Centre offers a variety of art shows, musical events, gallery exhibitions, classes, and workshops. You can attend an event, tour the state-of-the-art facility, or rent the venue for your performance.  

Best Milton Neighbourhood for Families – Timberlea

Milton is a great place to raise a family! You’ll find everything you need in this charming town with every amenity, excellent schools, and beautiful parks. Timberlea is the perfect family neighbourhood, with tree-lined streets and detached homes backing onto spacious yards.

Developed in the 1970s and 80s, Timberlea is one of the older areas in Milton, which means bigger lots, larger yards, and mature trees. Townhomes in the area offer a bit more space than newer developments, and the detached homes have at least 3 bedrooms, many with double car garages. With its small-town charm and community feel, Timberlea is perfect for growing families looking for a larger home and a bit more space.

Timberlea is in an incredible school district, with two public and two catholic elementary schools. One of which, Holy Rosary, is the top-ranking school in the area.

In the heart of Milton, Timberlea has a great walking score, with many amenities close at hand. The GO Station and Milton Mall are close, with downtown Main St. just a short drive away.

Milton Mall – The largest shopping centre in Milton, The Milton Mall, you’ll find popular retail shops, services, and dining options. There’s also a community space available to rent for workshops, meetings, or classes.

Best Milton Neighbourhood for Young Professionals – Harrison

One of the newest neighbourhoods in Milton, development began in Harrison in 2008. With newly built townhomes and semi-detached houses, hiking trails, and parks, the neighbourhood is perfect for young professionals looking for more space.

Along the west side of Milton, Harrison has stunning views of the Niagara Escarpment, making it the perfect spot for nature lovers. There is an abundance of hiking and cycling trails, parks, green spaces and stunning views.

Optimist Park – See great views of the escarpment, Optimist Park has hiking trails, a basketball court, tennis courts, a playground and a splash pad.

Mattamy National Cycling Centre – Built for the 2015 Pan American Games, the National Cycling Centre is the first ever velodrome in Canada. The facility offers a community recreational space for cycling, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and fitness training.

Centennial Park – With a pretty pond, gazebo, and sprawling lawns, Centennial Park, is the perfect place for an afternoon picnic.

Farmers Market – From May to October, the Milton Farmers Market features local produce, arts, crafts, and gifts, all handmade by locals.
